EcoTheo Social Justice | Spring 2021 Folio
Editor’s Note
For our spring 2021 social justice folio, we chose the theme “Access to Health.” This past year has brought a reckoning for us all as collectively we’ve faced the injustices old and new regarding whose lives may or may not be granted the ability to live and thrive. Whether reflecting on the Covid pandemic, growing movements for racial justice and nonviolence, or the advancing crisis of environmental sustainability, our communities are exploring and giving voice to the interconnectedness of our spiritual, ecological, and social well-being. Each of the contributors to this collection are doing just that, and we’re honored and excited to share their creative work with the EcoTheo community.
With poetry by Zoë Fay-Stindt, Kelly Lenox, and Jerrice Baptiste, nonfiction by Jennifer Lentfer, reviews by J.D. Ho and Bina Perino, and an essay and visual art collaborative piece by mother-daughter duo Monica Mische & Mary Commins, this folio offers a variety of reflections on how access to health is experienced in a range of fields and communities. Also included is an interview with Fredo Jackson from the nonprofit Flint River Fresh and a letter-to-the-editor from Arthur Powers, both of which share about the kind of embodied work that we trust will inspire our EcoTheo Review readers towards meaningful conversations and actions. We hope you will savor all of the offerings of this social justice issue and that our collective efforts will move us all towards truly healthy communities.
